Since I was to read 50 books in 2012 I had the opportunity to read some good, great, fantastic and even phenomenal books… and then there was this one. I decided to read it due to the fact that it was a best seller and everyone was raving about it.
After the first few chapters I realized what complete and utter garbage it was/is. I finished the book in two days (I’m a fast reader and the book was not thought provoking and I just wanted to get through it) but since finishing it, the more I think about it the angrier I get.
First of all, it’s based on Twilight characters, which is quite apparent after reading the first few chapters. She’s all clumsy and confused, he’s all wealthy and arrogant. The author didn’t even use her own ideas for characters. How creative is that?
But more importantly the way she describes these sex scenes… WTF. Not to divulge too much about my own personal life (hello, boundaries) but if a man asked me to kneel and be that submissive, I’d punch him right in the area of where my head is while I’m kneeling. Why did that part of the book bother me so much? The book had an adverse effect on me really, I wasn’t ‘randy’ afterwards, I was pissed off.
What bothers me most about these sex scenes is that young girls are reading this crap and think that’s what’s sex is supposed to be like. NOW, what people do in the privacy of their own homes is their business. Freedom to choose a bf that ties you up and beats on you for pleasure… that’s on you. (As long as you are at an age where you can make that choice as an adult) But girls, young girls, might now think that this type of sex is normal and expected. I know for sure that girls are able to change
I hate the porn industry for making sex look like that. The expectation for boys is that women 1. Look like that and 2. Sound like that and 3. That’s what sexy is… *sigh* … I guess I’m getting into a bigger issue here though…
I’ll give the author props though for creating such a successful book…
Would I recommend this book to a friend? NO!
Will I read the second and third book? Heck NO!
Am I mad at myself for finishing the book? Yes, yes I am.
So… did you like it? Am I wrong?
